L'OPEN DE FRANCE JUNIOR 2020 EN UN CLIN D’ŒIL / 2020 FRENCH JUNIOR, ROUNDUP

L'édition 2020 de l'open de France junior, qui s'est achevée dimanche après-midi à Lille, a réussi au pays hôte : les jeunes Tricolores ont raflé 8 médailles, dont deux titres pour Melvil Scianimanico et Macéo Levy. Retrouvez toutes les photos des podiums ci-dessous. / The 2020 French Junior Open – which ended on Sunday afternoon in Lille – was a success for the home country with 8 medals! Melvil Scianimanico won an all-French affair in BU15 against big rival Antonin Romieu, while constantly improving Macéo Levy clinched gold in BU17. Here are all th pictures from the prize ceremony.

-19 ans garçons / Boys U19

Arrivé avec Lille avec de solides références - notamment un quart de finale au dernier British Junior Open - Yash Fadte a tenu son rang de favori et est devenu le premier Indien vainqueur de l'OFJ en -19 ans. En finale, le Tchèque Marek Panacek a réussi à combler un gros déficit dans le premier jeu pour prendre l'avantage. Mais il a logiquement payé les efforts fournis la veille, avec 10 jeux disputés face aux Français Paul Gonzalez et Manuel Paquemar. Ce dernier s'est fait souffler la médaille de bronze par son coéquipier en équipe de France junior Toufik Mekhalfi, qui s'impose 12-10 dans le cinquième jeu. / His past results – including a quarter final this year at the British Junior Open – had made him the clear favourite and Yash Fadte lived up to this position, becoming the first player from India to win the FJO in BU19. In the final, Czech Republic's Marek Panacek had managed to overcome a big deficit to take the lead, but he became increasingly tired after having played two 5-game matches on Saturday against Frenchmen Paul Gonzalez and Manuel Paquemar. The latter was close to clinch the bronze medal but was beaten by compatriot Toufik Mekhalfi, 12-10 in the decider.

-19 ans filles / Girls U19

Comme chez les garçons, les têtes de série 1 et 2 se sont retrouvées en finale. Après sa défaite à ce même stade de la compétition en 2019, Ambre Allinckx a bien cru que la victoire allait à nouveau lui échapper lorsque la jeune Américaine Lucie Stefanoni (15 ans) a pris l'avantage 2-1. Mais la Franco-Suisse a remporté le quatrième jeu à l'arrachée (12-10) avant de conclure, remportant ainsi son troisième titre sur le circuit européen cette saison. La Russe Alesya Aleshina complète le podium, alors que la première Française - Yuna Loaëc - termine 6ème. / Like in BU19, seeds #1 and 2 made it to the final. After losing at this stage in 2019, Ambre Allinckx may have feared it was going to happen again when 15-year old American Lucie Stefanoni took a 2-1 lead. But the Swiss girl managed to level after a close 4th game (12-10) before closing the match, thus winning her third European tournament this season. Russian Alesya Aleshina clinched the bronze medal.

-17 ans garçons / Boys U17

C'est la bonne surprise du weekend côté Tricolore : sur la lancée d'une première participation au championnat de France Elite, Macéo Levy a déjoué les pronostics en remportant son premier tournoi européen. Tombeur de la tête de série n°1 Rowan Damming en quart de finale, un peu de nervosité lui a coûté le premier jeu en finale face au Suisse Tate Harms, mais une fois relâché le gaucher de Royan a pris de plus en plus le dessus au fil du match. Battu par Macéo en demi-finale, son compatriote Laouenan Loaëc décroche une superbe médaille de bronze. / Building on a first appearance in the French Nationals a few days ago, Macéo Levy went against the odds and won his first European title. After upsetting number 1 seed Rowan Damming in the quarters, nerves cost him the first game in the final against Tate Harms from Switzerland, but the lefty was able to relax and take the upper hand as the match went on. Beaten by Macéo in the semis, fellow Frenchman Laouenan Loaëc clinched the bronze medal.

-17 ans filles / Girls U17

L'Iranienne Niki Shemirani va sans doute se demander longtemps comment cette finale a pu lui échapper, tant pendant 2 jeux et demi son jeu d'attaque à tout va a totalement déstabilisé Olivia Besant. Mais la Russe a eu le grand mérite de ne jamais lâcher, en sauvant plusieurs balles de match dans les troisième et quatrième manche. Même si elle aura un peu de mal à conclure, elle convertit finalement sa cinquième occasion pour s'imposer 11-9 dans le cinquième jeu. Côté Français, la grosse satisfaction du weekend est la médaille de bronze de Zoé Faure, sa première sur le circuit européen. / Iran's Niki Shemirani may still be wondering how this final slipped out of her hands, because for almost 3 games her attacking game has completely unsettled Olivia Besant. But huge credit to the Russian for never giving up, and saving several match balls in the third and fourth game. Besant struggled to finish the match off after being 10-5 up in the fifth, but finally closed it 11-9. French girl Zoé Faure delighted her camp with a nice bronze medal.

-15 ans garçons / Boys U15

On s'attendait à un gros combat en finale entre les deux Français Melvil Scianimanico et Antonin Romieu, qui s'affrontent depuis leur plus jeune âge et avaient survolé le tableau les jours précédents. Mais le Corse n'est jamais rentré dans le match, et n'a pas affiché le niveau qu'on lui connaît, et qui lui avait permis d'atteindre les demi-finales du British Junior Open en 2019. Finaliste malheureux de l'OFJ en -13 il  a deux ans, Melvil Scianimanico remporte son deuxième tournoi européen. / We expected a big fight in the final between French boys Melvil Scianimanico and Antonin Romieu, who have been rivals since a very young age and has been untroubled in the previous days. But the player from Corsica never really got in to the match, and did not display the level that made him reach the semi-finals in the 2019 British Junior Open en 2019. Runner-up in the French Junior Open in U13 two years ago, Melvil Scianimanico won his second European tournament.

-15 ans filles / Girls U15 

Décidément, Amelie Haworth aime bien les courts du WAM : lauréate de l'OFJ en -13 ans en 2018, elle a récidivé dans la catégorie supérieure. Après un jeu très accroché face à Maria Arseniev, l'Anglaise a pris le dessus par la suite en finale. Auparavant, la Russe avait causé la déception de tout le camp Français en sortant Lauren Baltayan en demi. La Franco-Égyptienne (âgée de 12 ans, et qui avait décidé de tenter sa chance face à des joueuses plus âgées) se consolera ensuite avec une belle médaille de bronze, même si la Nîmoise Daphné Mourier lui aura donné du fil à retordre. / Amelie Haworth definitely likes playing on the cours of the WAM: after winning the FJO in U13 in 2018, she did it again in U15. The first game was very tight against Maria Arseniev, but the English girl won it and never looked behind. In the semis, the Russian upset the French camp beating young prospect Lauren Baltayan. The 12-year old French girl – who is based in Cairo – bounced back clinching the bronze medal although Daphné Mourier caused her some trouble in the 3rd place match.

-13 ans garçons / Boys U13

Ahmed Abd Elreheem a fait forte impression sur les courts de Lille, et s'est imposé très logiquement dans cette catégorie. L’Égyptien n'a pas perdu un jeu du tournoi, notamment en finale face au Tchèque David Linhart, 4ème l'an dernier. Le match pour la médaille de bronze était 100 % Tricolore, et c'est Amir Khaled qui l'a emporté en 4 jeux face à Mathias Santiago de la Colina. / Ahmed Abd Elreheem was impressive throughout in Lille, and was a comprehensive in this category. The Egyptian did not drop a game, including in the finalagainst 2019 semi-finalist  David Linhart from Czech Republic Bronze medal match was an all French affair and Amir Khaled won in 4 games against Mathias Santiago de la Colina.

-13 ans filles / Girls U13

Cette catégorie a été survolée par les jeunes Égyptiennes, notamment par une Farida Walid Sherif qui n'avait quasiment laissé aucun point à ses adversaires jusqu'en demi-finale. Elle a dû un peu plus s'employer par la suite, mais n'a néanmoins pas lâché un jeu face à ses compatriotes Ruqayya Ahmed Salem et Laila Khedr. / The GU13 category was completely dominated by Egyptian girls, especially Farida Walid Sherif who had barely lost a point up to the semis. She had a to work a little more later in the tournament, but still not dropped a game against compatriots Ruqayya Ahmed Salem and Laila Khedr.

La journée de samedi s'est terminée par deux matches au couteau dans le tableau -19 ans garçons, mais malheureusement les deux Français, Manuel Paquemar et Toufik Mekhalfi, se sont inclinés face au Tchèque Marek Panacek et à l'Indien Yash Fadte. Retrouvez ci-dessous quelques clichés de la fin de journée, par notre photographe Christian Lortat. Il y aura tout de même 3 Bleus en finale : Antonin Romieu et Melvil Scianimanico, qui s'affrontent en finale des -15, et Macéo Levy en -17. Huit autres joueront pour la médaille de bronze, dont 3 face-à-face franco-français. Programme complet des finales et résultats des demi-finales. / Saturday ended with two huge fights in the BU19 draw, but unfortunately for the home country Manuel Paquemar and Toufik Mekhalfi went down in 5 games, against Czech Republic's Marek Panacek and Indian Yash Fadte, respectively. Below are a few pictures from our photographer Christian Lortat. Nevertheless, there will be 3 French boys in the finals: Antonin Romieu and Melvil Scianimanico, who'll face each other in U15, and Macéo Levy in U17. Malgré une belle résistance de Baptiste Bouin, l'Indien Yash Fadte a contrôlé le match et était le premier à rejoindre les quarts de finale. Il affrontera Toufik Mekhalfi, logique vainqueur de son compatriote Léo Blin. Yash et Toufik s'étaient affrontés au British Junior Open en 2019, et le premier cité s'était imposé 3 jeux à 0. Dans le bas du tableau, les quarts ont été de grosses batailles (en photo), et Manuel Paquemar (face au Suisse Miguel Mathis) et Marek Panacek (face au Français Paul Gonzalez) en ont sortis vainqueurs. / Despite a good resistance from Baptiste Bouin, Indian Yash Fadte controlled the match and was the first one through to the quarters. He will face Toufik Mekhalfi who beat fellow Frenchman Léo Blin in straight games. Yash and Toufik face each other in the 2019 British Junior Open and the former had won in 3. In the bottom of the draw, the two matches (pictures below) were fierce battles, and Manu Paquemar (against Switzerland's Miguel Mathis) and Marek Panacek (versus France's Paul Gonzalez) came out as the winners and will play each other later on tonight.

Ninon Lemarchand (âgée de seulement 16 ans) a donné une belle réplique à la grande favorite Ambre Allinckx, mais après 3 tie-breaks la finaliste 2019 a pris le dessus dans le 4ème jeu. C'est également terminé pour Yuna Loaëc, battue en 3 jeux serrés par Alesya Aleshina. La Russe sera opposée à Lucie Stefanoni. / 16-year old from France Ninon Lemarchand gave a good account of herself against big favourite Ambre Allinckx, but after 3 tie-breaks last year's runner-up got the upper hand in the 4th. It's also over from Yuna Loaëc, who lost in 3 tigth games against Alesya Aleshina. The Russian girl will be up against Lucie Stefanoni.

Dans le bas du tableau, le Suisse Tate Harms - vainqueur du Néo-Calédonien Brice Nicolas alors qu'il était mené 2-1 - défiera Samuel Gerrits, lauréat en -15 l'an dernier. / We already know that thetre'll be a French player on the final: Macéo Levy (picture below) ousted seed number 1 Rowan Damming, a former FJO winner. He'll play Laouenan Loaëc who is yet to drop a game! Dans le duel Franco-Français, Zoé Faure est venue à bout de Lola Douillard. En demi-finale, elle affrontera l'Iranienne Niki Shemirani, considérée comme beaucoup par la favorite. En  revanche, Ana Munos a dû rendre les armes en 5 jeux face à la Russe Olivia Besant, qui sera opposée à la Néerlandaise Naomi Nohar. / In a all-French affair, Zoé Faure got the better of Lola Douillard. She will play Iran's Niki Shemirani – considered as the favorite of the draw by many – in the semis. However, it's over for Ana Munos who had to surrender after 5 games to Russian Olivia Besant, who'll be facing Dutch girl and seed #1 Naomi Nohar.

Il y avait un Français à l'affiche des 4 quarts de finale dans cette catégorie, et deux sont passés : belle performance pour Melvil Scianimanico (en photo), tombeur de la tête David Bernet, alors qu'Antonin Romieu a nettement battu un autre Suisse, Lasse Widmer. En revanche, c'est la fin du (beau) parcours pour Tyago Joneau et Noa Yulzari, le premier cité ayant été battu par l'Anglais Thomas Scott en 5 jeux. / There was a Frenchman featuring in each quarter in this category, and two went of them through: Melvil Scianimanico (picture below) upset seed 1 David Bernet, while Antonin Romieu comprehensively beat another Swiss player, Lasse Widmer. However, this is the end of a nice run for Tyago Joneau and Noa Yulzari., the former losing to England's Thomas Scott in 5.

Lauren Baltayan continue son bonhomme de chemin, et retrouvera la Russe Maria Arseniev cet après-midi. / There will be two French girls in the semis: beaten by Chloé Crabbé a few months ago at the Belgian Junior Open, Daphné Mourier had a sweet revenge and will face England's Amelie Haworth, winner in U13 two years ago. Très belle performance du Français Amir Khaled (en photo), net vainqueur d'Hany Reefat en affichant sa combativité habituelle (en photo). C'est un autre Égyptien qui l'attend en demi, Ahmed Abd Elreheem (qui n'a perdu aucun jeu depuis le début du tournoi). Clémence Pichon est la seule Française en quart, et aura fort à faire face à Farida Walid Sherif (qui a survolé sa poule). Matches à suivre au TUB à partir de 9h. / The first stage is now over and Egypt is dominating this category with 3 players topping their group with a 100% record. Clémence Pichon is the only remaining French girl left, and will be facing a tough task against Farida Walid Sherif – who was impressive so far. The quarter finals will be held at the TUB on Saturday from 9am.

Il y aura même 4 Bleus en quarts, grâce à la victoire de Tyago Joneau sur l’Égyptien Hamza Ghonheim. / The 3 main contenders – Swiss boy David Bernet and France's Antonin Romieu and Melvil Scianimanico – were not troubled in the round of 16. L'Iranienne Niki Shemirani (demi-finaliste en 2019), la Russe Olivia Besant et la Belge Marie Van Riet ont également remporté leurs deux matches, alors que Lola Douillard et Ana Munos complètent le contingent Tricolore. / The group stage delivered the name of the 8 quarter finalists. As we mentioned earlier, France's Zoé Faure downed seed #1 Naomi Nohar and will be full of confidence tomorrow. Même performance pour son partenaire d'entraînement Laouenan Loaëc face au Tchèque Karim Farrag, également tête de série ¾. Ça passe également en 3 jeux pour Macéo Levy, net vainqueur du Belge Nathan Masset (médaillé de bronze en -15  ans). Pendant ce temps, les Néerlandais Samuel Gerrits et Rowan Damming (têtes de série 1 et 2) continuent leur bonhomme de chemin. / What a night for France in this category: for his first european tournament for a while after a serious thigh injury, Brice Nicolas was impressiva against seed ¾ from Poland Jakub Gogol (11-4, 11-4, 11-4). It was the same result for his training partner Laouenan Loaëc against Czech Republic Karim Farrag, also seed ¾. Après avoir battu Lysandro Joneau, Hany Reefat a mis fin aux espoirs d'un autre Bleu, Thomas Mauras, en cinq jeux. Les 16 joueuses sont réparties en 4 poules de 4, qui ont démarré ce jeudi (les deux premières sont qualifiées pour les quarts). À signaler la nette victoire de Sonia Khatri face à Hannah Oudinet, pourtant l'une des meilleures joueuses Françaises de sa catégorie. On suivre donc la suite du parcours de l'Australienne avec attention … / The 16 players are split into 4 groups of 4, which started on Thursday (top 2 go through to the quarters). One on the outstanding results was Sonia Khatri's comprehensive win over Hannah Oudinet, one of the best GU13 in France. Therefore, we'll keep a close eye on the Australian girl in the rest of the tournament.

Fortunes diverses pour les Bleus, avec un 5 sur 11. Les têtes de série 5/8 se sont toutes imposées, mais ça a été tendu pour Yuna Loaëc : la Bretonne est venue à bout d'Ella Gallova, 11-9 au 5ème jeu. Les favorites entrent en lice vendredi. Like in GU17, 12 girls are split in 4 groups of 3. Seeds 5/8 all won but it was tight for France's Yuna Loäec who beat Ella Gallova 11-9 in the decider. The favorites will kick off their FJO campaign on Friday.

Quatre pré-tour au programme ce jeudi : ça ne passe pas pour le régional de l'étape, Arthur Bastian. Il y a eu quelques forfaits de dernière minute, et 3 joueurs dont la tête de série n°1 Yash Fadte sont déjà en 1/8è de finale. There were four only qualifying rounds on Thursday, and there was no joy for local boy Arthur Bastian. There are a few walkovers, and 3 players including number 1 seed from India Yash Fadte are already through to the round of 16.

Le French Junior Open (ou Open de France Junior, en V.O.) est l'un des grands rendez-vous de la saison dans l'hexagone. De jeudi à dimanche, près de 250 jeunes - dont de très nombreux Tricolores - s'affronteront sur les parquets Lillois. Présentation. / The French Junior Open is one of the main events of the squash season in the country. Close to 250 youngsters - including many local players - will be in Lille next weekend. L'OFJ, UNE AFFAIRE QUI ROULE

Tout d'abord installé à Strasbourg puis à Marseille, ce tournoi Super Série, a ensuite déménagé dans le Nord, « principalement pour des raisons géographiques, » précise Dominique Fontanon, président de l'association organisatrice (il a succédé à Michèle Lecomte, véritable instigatrice du projet et malheureusement décédée en 2011). « C'est une région facile d'accès pour de nombreux pays, que ce soit l'Angleterre, la Belgique, les Pays-Bas etc. On avait dépassé les 300 participants il y a quelques années, nous obligeant à fonctionner sur trois clubs, avec l'Arbonnoise en plus du WAM et du TUB (Bondues). Le gérant du WAM va d'ailleurs ouvrir un nouveau club dans le centre de Lille, et on peut légitimement penser qu'il apportera une nouvelle dimension à l'édition 2021. L'OFJ, c'est aussi tous les gens qui travaillent dans l'ombre : les bénévoles, les arbitres, le personnel des clubs, les prestataires photos, vidéo etc., sans oublier le traiteur qui vient depuis de nombreuses années et est très apprécié. Le bureau de l'association s'investit énormément : que ce soit notre trésorier Jean-Claude Cayzac, le juge-arbitre Frédéric Lecomte – qui sera assisté cette année de Sarah Chauchard, responsable du service sportif à la FFSquash – et sa compagne Véronique Vidal. Moi, je suis là pour filer un coup de main mais comme tous les présidents je fais principalement de la représentation, » sourie celui qui est également secrétaire général de la Fédération Française de Squash et président de la Ligue Occitanie, preuve de son investissement pour le bien de la discipline.

A LONG RUNNING AND SUCCESSFUL EVENT

The French Junior Open - which is Super Series event was first played in Strasbourg and Marseille, before moving to the north of France. "Mainly because of the location," says Dominique Fontanon, president of the organizing association (he succeeded Michèle Lecomte, who initiated the project but sadly passed away in 2011). "Lille is easy to access from many countries, whether it is England, Belgium, the Netherlands etc. We had over 300 entrants a few years ago, so we had to have an extra club – Arbonnoise, on top of the WAM and Bondues. The former is going to open a new branch in the center of Lille, thanks to which the tournament should go up to a new level in 2021. The FJO is also about all the people who work behind the scenes: volunteers, referees, club staff, providers (photographers, streaming etc.), and let's not forget the caterer who has been coming for many years and is very appreciated. The commitee of the association is paramount: our treasurer, Jean-Claude Cayzac, tournament ref Frédéric Lecomte – who will receive the help of Sarah Chauchard, in charge of the sporting department at the French Squash Federation - and his partner Véronique Vidal. As far as I am concerned, like most presidents public relations are my main stask," Fontanon says with a smile. He is also the secretary general of the FFSquash as well as the president of the Occitanie country, testimony to his dedication for the growth of his sport.

LES CHANCES FRANÇAISES

En -13 ans, Amir Khaled et Marius Blin peuvent viser le podium, alors que les Tchèques Vojtech Martinovsky et David Linhart sont têtes de série 1 et 2. On retrouve plusieurs joueurs Égyptiens n'ayant jamais joué en Europe … Même chose chez les filles, alors que les favorites sont Belge (Alice Allard) et Françaises (Hannah Oudinet et Sarah Guyot). En -15, la lutte pour l'or devrait être Franco-Suisse entre l'Helvète David Bernet et le duo Antonin Romieu – Melvil Scianimanico (déjà médaillé à Lille). Mercredi, on vous parlera de Lauren Baltayan dans la rubrique L'avenir est aux jeunes. Vainqueur en -13 à seulement 11 ans l'an dernier, la petite Franco-Egyptienne a été seulement placée tête de série 9/16 par la Fédération Européenne, alors qu'elle fait plutôt figure de favorite avec l'Anglaise Amelie Haworth – lauréate en -13 en 2018 – en guise de challenger. Mais les deux joueuses pourraient se rencontrer très tôt dans le tournoi …

The draw features several Egyptian players who have never played in Europe, which is also the case in GU13. The favorites are Belgium's Alice Allard and France's Hannah Oudinet and Sarah Guyot. In BU15, Swiss boy David Bernet and French duo Antonin Romieu and Melvil Scianimanico – former runner-up in Lille – should fight for gold. Victorious in GU13 last year while she was only 11 years old, Franco-Egyptian Lauren Baltayan was only seeded 9/16 by the European Squash Federation, but we think she's the one of the main contenders alongside England's and another former GU13 winner Amelie Haworth. But they could clash very early in the tournament ...

Après s'être livrés une féroce bataille en finale des -15 l'an dernier, les Néerlandais Samuel Gerrits et Rowan Damming sont favoris en -17. Néanmoins, les Français Laszlo Godde, Laouenan Loaëc et surtout Macéo Levy, qui vient de disputer le championnat de France Élite, ont une carte à jouer. Ana Munos était également à Bordeaux et la Guyanaise aura des ambitions, tout comme la Néerlandaise Naomi Nohar. Au vu de son pédigrée, l'Indien Yash Fadte est le favori logique en -19 ans. Les 3 meilleurs jeunes Français (Toufik Mekhalfi, Manuel Paquemar et Paul Gonzalez) tenteront de bousculer la hiérarchie, sans oublier le médaillé d'or 2019 en -17, le Tchèque Marek Panacek. La double championne de France junior Ambre Allinckx et l'Américaine Lucie Stefanoni semblent au-dessus du lot, mais les Tricolores (Mahé Asensi, Yuna Loaëc, Ninon Lemarchand) peuvent viser le bronze.

After a fierce battle in the BU15 final last year, Dutch boys Samuel Gerrits and Rowan Damming look like the favourites in BU17. Nevertheless, French trio Laszlo Godde, Laouenan Loaëc and especially Macéo Levy, who just featured in the French Nationals for the first time, surely have a part to play. Ana Munos was also in Bordeaux and the girl from French Guiana will be expected to perform in GU17, and so will Netherlands' Naomi Nohar. Obviously, France is the most represented with 98 players. Belgium and Switzerland are also boasting strong delegations, with almost 27 and 35 youngsters respectively, while there will be 17 Egyptian players in Lille.

☛ A few famous names in the squash world are among the winners of the FJO: in the women's, Camille Serme of course (4 titles), Isabelle Stoehr, the uprising French girl Mélissa Alves, Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy, a few top English players including Emily Whitlock, as well as Indian superstar Dipika Pallikal. BUSHMA CRÉE LA SURPRISE / BUSHMA UPSETS ALLINCKX

Petite surprise dans la catégorie reine, avec la victoire de Alina Bushma. Ambre Allinckx avait plutôt dominé leurs affrontements récents, mais malgré le gain du premier jeu, elle a ensuite subi la domination de l'Ukrainienne. Quatre ans après sa victoire en -15 ans, Bushma s'imposé à nouveau à Lille. / There was a small upset in this category with Alina Bushma's victory. Ambre Allinckx had been dominant in her recent meetings, but despite winning the first game, she saw the Ukrainian girl come back and take the upper hand. Four years after clinching the U15 title, Bushma wins again in Lille.

Frais physiquement après être passé par forfait en demi-finale, le Tchèque Viktor Byrtus a totalement maîtrisé son match face à son compatriote Ondrej Vorliceck et s'impose en 3 jeux. / The final went according to the expectations. Physically fresh after benefiting from a walk over last night, Viktor Byrtus controlled his match against his Czech compatriot Ondrej Vorlicek and won in straight games.

La grandissime favorite Ambre Allinckx arrive en finale en ayant passé très peu de temps sur le court. Alina Bushma a dû batailler un peu plus, notamment face à Klara Moller en quart de finale. Allinckx a remporté leurs trois derniers affrontements sur le score en 3 jeux, et la denrière c'était l'an dernier à l'OFJ. / Huge favourite Ambre Allinckx has spent very little time on court to make the final, while Alina Bushma had to fight a little harder, especially in her quarter final against Klara Moller. Allinckx won their last 3 meetings in straight games and the last one was at the 2018 FJO.

Après deux finales perdues en 2017 et 2018, Marek Panacek gagne enfin à Lille. Joshua Jacques Phinera n'est pas passé pas loin d'arracher le 3ème jeu devant un public en fusion, mais le Tchèque s'impose finalement 15-13. / After two runner-up finishes in a row in 2017 and 2018, Marek Panacek finally won in Lille. Joshua Jacques Phinera came close to take the third game in front of a noisy crowd, but the Czech player was able to close in straight games, 15-13.

On sait déjà qu'on aura un deuxième vainqueur Tchèque à l'open de France, deux ans après David Zeman. Byrtus aura les faveurs des pronostics, tout d'abord au vu de ses résultats récents, et parce qu'il arrivera beaucoup plus frais en finale : il n'a pas joué hier soir, alors qu'Ondrej Vorliceck a dû batailler pour sortir le Suisse Wilhelmi. Ce dernier a également perdu leur dernière confrontation, en finale du Czech Junior Open il y a quelques semaines. / We are already ensured a second Czech winner at the FJO, two year after David Zeman. Odds go in favor of Byrtus, first of all because of his recent form, but also he did not play last night while Ondrej Vorliceck had to dig in to beat Yannick Wilhelmi. Besides, Byrtus won their last encounter in the Czech Junior Open final a few weeks ago.

C'est la grosse côte de cet open de France junior : Joshua Jacques Phinera peut-il parachever son incroyable parcours par un titre ? Le joueur du PUC n'était pas tête de série, mais a multiplié les performances depuis deux jours, dont deux victoires en cinq jeux hier. Il devra pourtant encore élever son jeu dimanche, face à un habitué des lieux : Finaliste malheureux ces deux dernières années, Marek Panacek a passé l'obstacle Adam Goad en quarts avant de se montrer intraitable contre Paul Gonzalez hier soir. Numéro 1 européen en -17, le Tchèque a remporté de nombreux titres sur le circuit, et faisait même partie de l'équipe qui a décroché une médaille de bronze historique au dernier championnat du monde junior. / It will undoubtedly be the story of the tournament if it goes until the end: can Joshua Jacques Phinera wrap his incredible run with a win in the final? The Parisian was unseeded but won match after match in the last two days, including two thrillers on Saturday. However, he will need to up his game even higher on Sunday against someone who's familiar to the occasion: runner-up in the last two years, Marek Panacek came through a tough match with Adam Goad in the quarters and then was impressive against Paul Gonzalez last night. European number 1, the Czech boy has won several titles on the tour and was even a member of the team who clinched an historical bronze medal at the last World Junior Championship.

Finale 100% Néerlandaise dans cette catégorie, entre deux joueurs qui ont eu chacun un gros match ces deux derniers jours : pour Damming, c'était vendredi, avec une victoire sur le Français Roméo Bily après avoir été mené 2-0 et 6-2. De son côté, Gerrits est sorti vainqueur d'un match marathon contre un autre Tricolore – Melvil Scianimanico – 14-12 dans le cinquième jeu. Il a remporté leur confrontation la plus récente, dans le match pour la 3ème place au dernier Swiss Junior Open. / This final will be an all Dutch affair between two players who each have had a big match so far: for Damming, it was on Friday with a win over Frenchman Roméo Bily after being 2-0 and 6-2 down. Gerrits came through a marathon match against another French boy – Melvil Scianimanico – 14-12 in the fifth. He won their last meeting, in the bronze medal at the Swiss Junior Open.

Comme prévu, Asia Harris a été impressionnante depuis le début du tournoi. Aussi grande par la taille que par le talent, l'Anglaise est de retour en finale après celle perdue en -13 ans en 2017. La Belge Chloé Crabbe a été également médaillée d'argent dans cette catégorie mais l'année dernière. Elle se présente en finale après deux gros combats – remportés en 5 jeux face à Ana Munos et Riana Alexova – et n'aura rien à perdre. / As expected, Asia Harris was impressive since the beginning of the tournament. As tall as she is talented, the English girl is back in a FJO final after the U13s in 2017. Belgium's Chloé Crabbe was also silver medallist in this category, last year. She made the final after two huge fights – both won in 5 against Ana Munos and Riana Alexova – and will have nothing to lose.
